How do you find the best beach in Goa
For those of you who do not know, I am a local from Goa. Born and brought up in Goa for several years, I was never aware how much Goa is celebrated outside. Every person I knew born in India or abroad had a special place for Goa in their heart. It’s either that you have never been to Goa or you visit Goa every year. There is no in between.
For me Goa is home and where my family lives. I had never visited Goa as a tourist and hence my perspective about Goa was different. So, when my friends and colleagues would ask me about places to visit in Goa, I would be embarrassed for not knowing anything.
One day I decided to put on my beach hat, pick up a map, call my cousins and hit the roads of Goa. I wanted to experience Goa as a tourist. We spent days along the coastline hopping from one beach to another. It took us few long weekend breaks till we had seen a lot of it.
And now as learned and experienced tourists, we can answer the most common question we get asked “How do I find the best Beach in Goa?”
North and South Goa – where to settle?
Goa is divided into two halves or districts – North Goa and South Goa. Generally speaking, North Goa is the party place with night clubs, bars, markets and restaurants. South Goa is more quiet, calm and peaceful. This is one factor to help you decide which side you would want to pick.
I would recommend you to try both. But depending on your taste you could choose to spend more days at one side compared to the other.
Now that you have decided a side based on your taste, you would want to pick the right beach. Some people would ask ‘How does it even matter? A beach is a beach, right?’
Let me affirm you, this is not the case. Each beach has a completely different vibe associated with it. Major activities taking place on the beach, kind of crowd, places around the beach are some factors that can decide which beach you would like to visit. But one thing is guaranteed –
Any three days along the coastline would give you the energy to face the world, come what may.

For Beaches with a good top-view
→ South Goa – Kakolem (beautiful place but Google map doesn’t have the exact location. You need to follow the map and then ask a local person for directions – that too only if you find a person around), Cabo de Rama Beach, Canaguinim (again not on the map, need to ask a local for the top view of the beach)
→ North Goa – Vagator or Ozran Beach top (find Thalassa restaurant on your map and you would find a road right opposite going to a hill top giving you the best sea view from the top)
For Beaches with Forts
→ North Goa – Chapora Beach, Cabo de Rama Beach, Sinquerim Beach
For the Hippie in you
→ North Goa – Arambol, Anjuna and Assagao
Secret Beaches with the whole beach to yourself
I won’t name them here. But a little hint, head as south as you can (from Betul Beach onwards) and pick any random beach on a weekday. There are high chances you will be the only one at the beach.
For romantic candle light dinners at the beach
→ South Goa – Benaulim Beach
